Places to visit in Mandya


Adichunchanagiri  It is 66 Kms from Mandya. From nagamangala it is 21 Kms.It is noted for Bhairava worship on a hill. It was formerly a Natha panthi centre and is now a seat of the Swamy of Vokkaliga community. The place has a peacock sanctuary too.
Basaral  It is 25 kms from Mandya. It has a embellished Mallikarjuna temple of Hoysala style. It is built by harihara Dandanayaka in 1234.
 
Srirangapattana  It is 14 Kms from Mysore & it is an island in between two branches of the Cauvery. It was also the capital of the mysore rulers. There is a  Ranganath temple here. The fort here was built in 1454. The Mysore rules made it their capital in 1610 in the days of Raja Wodeyar, who took it from the Vijayanagara Governer. 
The Ranganatha temple is called Adi Ranga. 
Ganjam has Dariya Daulat palace of Tipu and Gumbaz, the mausoleum of haider and tipu both  impressive structures of Indo-Saracenic style. The palace has paintings, fine wood work and it houses a musem. 
Melukote Distance by road from Bangalore is 150kms 
Nearest railway station is Mandya which is
40 k.m. away from Melkote. 
     It is a religious centre which attracts lakhs of people during its world famous annual feast
VAIRAMUDI. The temple was reconstructed in the Hoysala style by Visnuvardhana with the guidance of Ramanujacharya, a famous Visistadvaitist, in 11th century A.D. There are

Hill shrine of Lord Narasimha, Thottilamadu,

RANGANATHITTU BIRD    SANCTUARY 

Distance by road from Bangalore:125 kms  This sanctuary is home to exotic birds coming all the way from Siberia, Australia and North America. Stretching on both sides of river Cauvery,its home to birds,otters and crocodiles.Take a ride in a cane boat,to see them,accompanied by the open bill stroke, the white ibis,egret, heron,partidge or the cormorant, an endless variety of delightful birds.

Maddur  It is 20 Kms from Mandya and it is headquaters of this district. It is described in records as "Arjunapuri agrahara", the institution being ascribed to epic hero Arjuna. Madduramma is the village goddess of the place. The Narasimha Swamy Temple here of the Hoysalas has the figure of Narasimha, which is seven feet in height. 
The Varadaraja temple is a Chola structure with a 12 feet tall Varadaraja image.
