Karunadu,  the  elevated land, is blessed with beautiful locales. Tuskers roam the banks of swift flowingrivers lined with sandal and rosewoodtreesand  nature  unfolds on its series of uplands with an average elevation of 610 meters.

A succession of emperors  have added new dimensions to  the state'scultural and spiritual ethos, the Chalukyas,Hoysalas and the mighty Vijayanagarempire, who have left behind a rich culture, crafts and heritage centres.Comingunder the British yoke in the 19th century,it was named  the  New  Mysore  Stateby  independent India and a unifiedstate was named Karnataka in November 1973.
