Government of Karnataka, Department of Technical and Medical
Education, conducts Common Entrance Test for admission to first year M.B.S/B.D.S/B.Tech/B.Arch.
courses in various universities in Karnataka. Equal weightage is given
to marks secured in qualifying exam and the Common Entrance Test. All candidates
desirous of joining professional courses must compulsorily appear for Common
Entrance Test conducted by the Government of Karnataka both for "Free seats"
and "Payment seats".
Eligibility:
A person who has passed the second year Pre-University or XII standard
or equivalent examination in the year of admission or earlier (qualifying
examination) with Physics, Chemistry and Mathematics in respect of Engineering
courses and Physics , Chemistry and Biology in respect of Medical and Dental
courses as optional subjects and English as one of the languages and has
obtained not less than fifty per cent , of the aggregate marks or equivalent
grade in the optional subjects is eligible for admission.
In case of candidates belonging to scheduled caste and scheduled tribes
and category-I the minimum marks for the purpose of eligibility shall be
forty per cent of the aggregate in the optional subjects. Further, the
person seeking admission to Medical and Dental courses should have completed
the age of seventeen Years as on 31st December to the year of Admission.
So, not only a person who has passed the qualifying examination with
requisit marks but also a person who has appeared for the qualifying examination
and who is expecting the results is also eligible to apply for the Common
Entrance Test subject to the condition that he would submit the qualifying
examination marks card at least within one week from the day of the CET,
failing which no rank will be assigned to the candidate.
The Written Test
Syllabus:
There are three subjects viz.Physics, Chemistry and Mathematics or
Physics, Chemistry and Biology as the case may be . The question papers
are based on the I and II PUC syllabi prescribed for and applicable to
the students appearing for the Annual examination conducted by Pre-University
Education Directorate of Karnataka State.
Duration and Question Paper:
Each question paper will be of 70 minutes duration and will be of objective
type.
Each question paper will contain 60 questions and each question
will have four options. The candidate work have to make use of and optional
mark reader (MR) sheet which will be supplied at the beginning of each
session to mark the correct answers. Each question will carry one mark.
The candidate is expected to attempt all the 60 questions to secure the
highest marks. In other words there is no choice among the questions.
The conduct of Common Entrance Test
The common Entrance Test is conducted as per the prescribed schedule
only at the Nodal Centres and Examination centres located in Karnataka.
Equal weightage is given to marks secured in the qualifying examination
and the Common Entrance Test. The question Papers in all the 4 subjects
are consist of 60 questions in each subject. All questions are Compulsory.
