Long long ago, much before Bangalorewas known as Bangalore, the famous Bull Temple was in the outskirts ofa small village. Just adjacent to the temple was the farm of a poor farmer, who used to grow groundnut for his living. One bull used to come to hissmall farm and ransack the whole crop as and when it chose to, puttingthe farmer and his family in to trouble. One day he decided to end this.He prayed to the Lord Shiva, and promised to offer his crop to Nandi (theBull) two days in a year. | Which is still being celebrated as "KALLEKAYIPARSE", an event that attracts lakhs of people
every year duringDecember. The greatness of this event is that it is wholly a people
show,no event manager nor any big sponsor. The myth behind this is that after the two daysof fair celebrated by the lakhs of people from people in and around Bangalore, one will not be able to find a single groundnut shell in the temple premises, which will be sold during those two days in heaps. |
