EYE INJURY

If you receive a blow that gives you a black eye, cover your  eye with a cold compress and make an appointment with a physician so that he  can determine if there is further damage.
If a splinter or some other sharp object pierces an eye  a very  rare occurrence- do not pull it out. Cover the eye and the object  with a paper  cup, or bend a piece of sturdy paper into a cone;  tape this protective covering   in place. Then take the victim to a hospital emergency room. If someone gets a  poison or a chemical in his eye, flush it out immediately. Either hold his head  under running lukewarm  water or fill a pitcher with lukewarm water, hold it a  few inches above the eye and pure continuously for 15 minutes, refilling the  pitcher as necessary.
Then call the poison control center or a physician.  Do not call before  you irrigate; permanent damage can be done in the time it takes to  make the call.
