Rub with chamois, use mild silver polish and rub gently. Now a days gold polish is also available. However it is expensive. Never rub through plating. Never expose to salt or prespiration. These are the tips to protect the artificial, imitation, gold plated jewelleries and accessories. There are different type of jewelleries available in the market such as steel jewellery, brass, Amber beads, lace work, costume jewellery etc.
E.g.:

1) Titanium: The hardest and strongest of metals used for jewellery, is widely used for costume jewellery. Though grey is natural colour, It can be coloured to produce brilliant. 2) Brass: An alloy of copper and zinc, can be beaten and textured to create patterns and designs.   3) Bronze: The oldest alloy, consists of 75% of copper and tin, lead and zinc. It can be carved to create patterns. 

 

Cultivating pearls through artificial means is called culturing, and such pearls are called cultured pearls. Then you also have the imitation pearl, Which are hallow spears of thin glass, coated with a preparation made from fresh scales and then filled with white wax.
