INTRODUCTION

Indian jewellery has a fascinating history. Believe it or not, as early as 2500 - 1500 B.C. Indian crafts men had mastered the art of cluttering beads of every imaginable shape.  Today Indian jewellery shows two major trends - The modern look, which is fragile and less ornate "and the back to the Indian look", represented by the old pieces of Moghul and ancient jewellery, or imitations of these in modern mediums.
Jewellery has become the passion with most women. Jewellery is an integral part of an indian women's life. It need not always be in gold or silver, or set with diamonds or other precious stones. Rene lalok can be called "Father of modern jewellery".  Innumerable designs are seen in the paintings of Ajanta and in the carvings of ellora and Khajuraho, they continue to be a source of inspiration to designers even now! Each part of the body was decorated by a different and specific ornament. It not only preserves its beauty but also increases its life!
